Strategic Plan
The ASHG Strategic Plan, approved in May 2019, provides a road map for ASHG to respond to evolving member needs, and to focus efforts where we can best serve the field and society more broadly. It reflects many months of member input and ideas, including a member survey, committee discussions, and conversations with a variety of stakeholders.

The Plan begins by articulating a long-term vision: People everywhere realize the benefits of human genetics and genomics research. It’s a vision the Society hopes will inspire leadership and members to expand upon current programs and past accomplishments. It features four goals for the next three to five years:
- Promote Research Excellence. ASHG is a leading force to enhance the quality of human genetics and genomics research and increase its benefits for all.
- Advance Policy and Advocacy. ASHG leverages its reputation and strengths to shape the future of the field.
- Cultivate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. ASHG works to foster diverse, equitable, accessible, and inclusive environments and scientific priorities within the Society and across the international research community.
- Ensure Organizational Strength and Sustainability. ASHG is a financially resilient and thriving organization that is well-positioned to lead, adapt, and innovate.
