Strategic Plan

The ASHG Strategic Plan, approved in May 2019, provides a road map for ASHG to respond to evolving member needs, and to focus efforts where we can best serve the field and society more broadly. It reflects many months of member input and ideas, including a member survey, committee discussions, and conversations with a variety of stakeholders.

The Plan begins by articulating a long-term vision: People everywhere realize the benefits of human genetics and genomics research. It’s a vision the Society hopes will inspire leadership and members to expand upon current programs and past accomplishments. It features four goals for the next three to five years:

1. Year-round programming. ASHG is valued as a year-round member service provider and industry authority.
2. Member engagement. Members value Society engagement as integral to career growth.
3. Diversity. ASHG is a recognized leader in valuing, driving, and embodying diversity in genetics and genomics.
4. Public awareness. ASHG is a reliable and sought-after source for public information on the benefits of human genetics and genomics research.
