ASHG supports a woman’s right to make her own reproductive decisions, particularly upon learning that her fetus has a genetic or congenital disorder and has been informed by a licensed or certified health care professional—a view originally articulated in 1991 and reaffirmed and updated in 2020. This includes, among other options, the right to choose to terminate her pregnancy and to donate fetal tissue for research.
