Attendee Services
Please see the following sections for details on services available to attendees.
ASHG is committed to assisting attendees with special needs. If you require assistance, please contact us in advance of the meeting by emailing ashgmeetings@ashg.org with your specific request, using the phrase “Assistance with Special Needs” in the subject line. If you have difficulty in walking long distances, consider renting a scooter from Scoot Around. They will deliver your scooter to your hotel and pick it up when you no longer need it. For more details, visit www.scootaround.com or call (888) 441-7575.
ASHG encourages families to travel to Houston and enjoy the many family-oriented activities the city has to offer. In partnership with KiddieCorp, ASHG will provide formal child care at the convention center, for which advance registration is required.
For the safety and security of your child(ren), ASHG has the right to refuse care to any child based on space availability as well as to any child unable to adapt to group situations, or to any child whose presence or behavior may disrupt the program or endanger the health or safety of other children. Note: Meals are not included. Parents can order lunch in advance; an order form will be sent to all parents. Additionally, staff will not administer medication (including sunscreen), and any child who is ill will not be admitted to the center.
A Family/Nursing Mothers Room will be located in the convention center to give parents and children a place to relax during the meeting. The room will be equipped with comfortable furniture and separate private areas for nursing mothers. Attendees may not use this room for babysitting purposes.
Coat check and luggage will be available at the convention center for a small fee. Please check back for details in September.
ASHG is partnering with the international film and broadcasting company WebsEdge to produce ASHG TV, a unique platform to learn about cutting-edge research and science, as well as draw attention to the hard work of human genetics professionals.
Each daily episode has two features:
- Conference News: On-site interviews, session highlights, and attendees’ insights on meeting content and events
- In-Depth Reports:Five-minute, documentary-style films highlighting programs, case studies and best practices from the field of human genetics
On site, ASHG TV will be screened around the venue, in selected attendee hotels on dedicated channels, and online and on social media.
Leading up to the Annual Meeting, WebsEdge will reach out to organizations to discuss the opportunity of producing a film about their work, to be included in ASHG TV 2019.
Only a limited number of organizations will be featured in ASHG TV 2019 and there is a cost to participate. To learn more about the in-depth reports, please contact Annie Lyon (annie@websedge.com).
Complimentary wi-fi will be available to all meeting registrants in all public lobbies and meeting spaces of the convention center except inside the Exhibit & Poster Hall. Further details will be available in September.
Please visit the Meetings Management Office to look for items lost or turn in items found.
ASHG does not provide full meals as part of the registration fee. However, there are food concessions within the convention center, as well as many restaurants nearby. Check out the Travel page for more information.
