Over the past year, the Society has continued to find ways to invest in programs, resources, and tools to better serve its members as they pursue their professional development journeys and career goals. Last year, the ASHG Career Development Committee (CDC) launched a new resource, the Genetics and Genomics Career Accelerator, which includes a wealth of information on a variety of professions from the field. This tool was curated from reputable websites as well as existing ASHG content including podcasts, video interviews, webinars, and more.

The Genetics and Genomics Career Accelerator is a new resource provided by the ASHG Career Development Committee to help members explore careers in genetics & genomics and provide helpful advice for the career search, interview, and negotiation process. The toolkit includes hundreds of resources, organized by the following topics:
- Career Stage: Career stage based on training and professional level.
- Career Sector: Professional job categories in industry, academia, government and non-profit.
- Job Family: Career paths organized into categories based on types of careers, as well as resources for career exploration, building job skills, networking, and applying for jobs.
- Topic: Career advice for interview and resume prep, references, job search process, mentorship, reputation management, networking, equity, and wellness.
ASHG Career Center: As a job seeker, the ASHG Career Center helps you to post your resume, apply for jobs, and get job alerts for over 2,500 jobs from more than 350 employers. Employers can attract top talent by posting jobs, managing applicants, and search more than 7,000 resumes. Don’t forget, ASHG members can post their jobs at a discounted rate! Trainee leadership opportunities: ASHG invites our trainee members (undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and clinical fellows) to become a part of the Society’s leadership by serving on ASHG committees or on the ASHG Board of Directors. Applications are open now and due March 21.
Trainee Fellowships: ASHG and the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) co-sponsor two fellowships annually to support early-career genetics and genomics professionals with an advanced degree who wish to make a career transition. Applications are open now and due April 20.
The Nascent Transcript: Published quarterly, The Nascent Transcript features original content by and for ASHG trainee members including career interviews, the Trainee Paper Spotlight, and upcoming deadlines and opportunities.
Trainee Paper Spotlight: Increase the visibility of an ASHG trainee’s work through the Trainee Paper Spotlight. Trainees can self-nominate or ASHG members can submit a nomination on behalf of an outstanding trainee that they know.
Professional Development Learning Content on the ASHG Learning Center: ASHG has a wide array of content available online that can be used in your career development journey. There are webinars, podcasts, workshops, and sessions from previous Annual Meetings that cover a range of technical skills and topics including DEI, mentoring, career changes, and more.
Career Corner Interviews: In these interviews, ASHG members from various career stages discuss their professional paths and provide insight and reflection on careers in genetics.
Human Genetics Scholars Initiative: ASHG, in partnership with NHGRI, Biogen, GSK, Roche, and Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) provides the Human Genetics Scholars Initiative, a program launched in April 2019 to help advance diversity and inclusion in the field. Applications for the next cohort will open soon and will be due in the Spring.

Awards: ASHG honors excellence in the field through a variety of awards programs, valuing over $200,000 annually.
