Networking Events & Opportunities at ASHG 2023

If you’re looking to grow your network and advance your career, in-person networking events are a great place to start. You can meet new people, learn about new opportunities, build relationships, and get inspired. The ASHG Annual Meeting has many kinds of opportunities to network: ancillary events, exhibitor events, inspiration lounges, receptions, and meetups are all great places to expand your network!

Receptions

Advance ticket purchase required to attend the below receptions. Purchase your ticket during registration or by going to the Registration Resource Center to add a ticket to your registration.

Trainee Reception (open to trainee and early career attendees only)
Wednesday, November 1: 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

This fun event on the first night of the meeting, Wednesday, November 1, provides an opportunity to network with other trainees and get advice from potential mentors at different career stages. Enjoy getting to see and meet one another at ASHG while enjoying beverages, food, and games!

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Reception
Thursday, November 2: 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Reception scheduled for Thursday, November 2, will recognize and celebrate the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as provide networking for the research and training community.

ASHG’s 75^th Anniversary Gala Celebration
Saturday, November 4: 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Join us for a special closing gala reception at the ASHG 2023 Annual Meeting honoring the Society’s 75^th Anniversary on Saturday, November 4, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. Themed “One Humanity, Many Genomes™,” the event will spotlight 75 years of innovation in the field and how genetics and genomics research is generating benefits for people everywhere. The evening will include drinks, food, and live music from Ethidium Spill featuring ASHG members Francis Collins, Anthony Antonellis, and Elliott Marguilies. ASHG Connect SIG Meetups

ASHG Connect is an online member-only community that offers Shared Interest Groups (SIGs). This is where you can actively Connect, Communicate, and Collaborate with fellow ASHG members, staff, and leadership plus meet others with similar ideas, interests, and issues. During the meeting you have the opportunity to join ASHG’s three (3) Shared Interest Groups in-person as they meet to discuss future SIG content and goals. Meetups will be in held each morning (location will be available in September):

Be Aware of Scams for Housing and Attendee Lists

Be alert! ASHG members and meeting attendees are being approached by companies or visiting websites that falsely claim to be official ASHG hotel partners or offer “the best rates.” Many of these are scams. We strongly suggest you book using the hotel links provided on ASHG’s website or another reputable and known travel website. Members and exhibitors have reported lost reservations and unrecoverable expenses from such scams and fake sites. Please pay careful attention when booking, and we look forward to welcoming you to Washington D.C.

Another common scam is an offer of the official attendee email list for ASHG 2023. ASHG does not sell, rent, or share contact/lead lists of members or meeting attendees. None of these companies are legitimate. Please reach out to exhibits@ashg.org for advertising and sponsorship options to reach ASHG meeting attendees and to report suspicious contacts.
